Borage Seeds (Borago officinalis) | Bulk & Wholesale

Borage (Borago officinalis), also known as Starflower, is one of the most valuable plants you can grow in a UK garden. Famous for its vivid blue, star-shaped flowers and grey-green hairy leaves, this hardy annual is adored by bees and gardeners alike.

Whether you are looking for a small packet for your windowsill or bulk borage seeds for a large wildflower meadow, our premium seeds offer high germination rates and vigorous growth.

Why Grow Borage?

  • The #1 Bee Magnet: Borage refills its nectar faster than almost any other plant, making it invaluable for supporting local pollinators.
  • Edible & Delicious: The delicate blue flowers and young leaves are 100% edible. They have a fresh, cooling taste reminiscent of cucumber, green melon, and runner beans. Perfect for freezing in ice cubes, garnishing cocktails (like Pimm’s!), or brightening up salads.
  • Perfect Companion Plant: Grow borage next to your strawberries and tomatoes. It helps attract pollinators to boost your crop yield and is believed to improve the flavour of neighbouring plants.
  • Rich in Oils: Borage is commercially cultivated for its seed oil, which is rich in Omega-6 fatty acids and known for its hydrating skin benefits.

Growing Guide: When to Sow Borage Seeds in the UK

  • Sow Indoors: February to April (Propagate at 15-20°C).
  • Sow Outdoors: April to June (Directly into soil).
  • Autumn Sowing: Late August to October (For early spring blooms).

How to Plant: Borage is very easy to grow and thrives in most soil types.

  1. Preparation: Use moist, free-draining seed compost. If sowing a large area with our bulk seeds, mix the seeds with dry sand to help distribute them evenly.
  2. Sowing: Sow on the surface of the soil and cover with a very thin sprinkling of compost or vermiculite. Do not bury them deep; they need some light to germinate.
  3. Care: Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged.
  4. Position: Thrives in full sun or partial shade on a windowsill or in the garden border.

Plant Specs:

  • Height: Grows quickly to approx. 60–80cm.
  • Habit: Bushy annual that readily self-seeds (buy once, and you will likely have borage for years to come!).
